POSITION FUNCTION:

Responsible for operating a fork lift for the accurate storing, shipping and receiving of product to meet company standards of safety, security and productivity. Further the Operator is responsible for the accurate checking or counting of all product while ensuring that all product is free of damage and infestation and that production code dates are properly recorded. The Operator is accountable for the safe, orderly and efficient movement of the customer's products.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Operate all job-required equipment in a safe manner following prescribed work methods.
  2. Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to storage locations. Efficiently stack and store the merchandise in the appropriate areas.
  3. Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage. Report quality variances.
  4. Pull and prepare product for shipment, ensuring that the exact number and type of product is loaded and shipped. Perform picking duties in an efficient manner that meets customer service standards.
  5. Efficiently move product from staging and/or storage areas into trailer or rail cars.
  6. Load, unload, move, stack, and stage product and materials using a forklift, clamp truck or other power equipment.
  7. Use radio frequency equipment for picking, receiving, put-away, and load functions as required.
  8. Maintain the facility's equipment and materials in a neat, clean and orderly fashion. This can include but is not limited to - maintaining a clean working area, pulling all damaged stock, sweeping bay rows, inspection of product and transportation vehicles for evidence of rodent or insect activity, keeping all outside doors closed when not in use, cleaning up spillage etc. Comply with OSHA and MSDS standards.
  9. Responsible for lift truck inspection at the start of the shift daily and reporting any malfunctions immediately. On a daily basis, inspect and perform minor maintenance on the forklift or other equipment.
  10. Efficiently perform various assignments which can include but are not limited to - unloading and loading of product by hand or with the use of a forklift, staging of loose cases by hand or with the use of a forklift, sweeping, inventory of product, co-packing, emptying trash receptacles etc.
  11. Responsible for accurately documenting all movement of product to ensure the highest level of inventory control by manually writing on a form with the use of a pencil or through radio frequency terminal.
  12. Provide proper stock rotation in order to ensure product freshness according to procedures.
  13. Responsible for reporting any careless or unsafe work conditions immediately.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Open and close designated facility as scheduled. Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse.
  2. Document status of equipment (trailers and rail cars) in the lot as requested.
  3. As scheduled, personally tour warehouse(s) to observe all aspects of the warehouse operation from the physical condition and cleanliness of the building(s) to the appearance and condition of the product being handled and/or stored.
  4. Verify accuracy of paperwork submitted by other forklift operators.
  5. Assist in physical inventory process to verify accuracy of inventory balance reports.
  6. Perform physical inventory of dunnage supplies (packing materials, cardboard sheets, air bags, doorcores, etc.) as scheduled.
  7. Perform of assist in building, grounds and equipment maintenance as required.
  8. Others duties as assigned.


CONTACTS:

  1. Reports directly to the Warehouse Supervisor.
  2. Works closely with other forklift operators, office personnel, truck drivers, sanitation and maintenance personnel to report information, receive instructions and coordinate work flow.
  3. Occasionally will have direct contact with customer representatives.

EDUCATION:

High school or equivalent is required.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Prior lift truck experience is helpful but not required.
Prior computer knowledge is helpful but not required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift or transfer a maximum of 75 lbs. with frequent lifting and/or carrying of various products weighing up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to twist, turn, reach, push, pull, lift and bend.
Must have good eye, hand and foot coordination for managing the forklift.
Must have good eye sight (20/20 or corrected to such).
Must have good hearing - well enough for safety purposes due to working in forklift environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to adapt to climate changes in a minimally climate controlled warehouse - hot summers/cold winters, humidity changes.
Environment may be dusty at times. Heavy motorized vehicle traffic.

HAZARDS:

Lift truck traffic - must be aware at all times of other lift trucks operating in the same area to prevent collisions.
Exhaust fumes from lift trucks - the lift trucks operate on propane fuel.
Noise levels from lift trucks can be high.
Chemicals such as pesticides are used to control insect activity by our licensed sanitarians.
Environment may by dusty at times.
